Next Generation Fund: Submit a Proposal for 2027

Application Now Open for Novel Project Ideas

Some of SWOG’s key programs didn’t begin with federal funding — they began with a single idea submitted to The Hope Foundation’s Next Generation Fund. Every year, we open our application inviting SWOG members and their collaborators to submit new requests that tackle unmet needs across our trials network. While other Hope programs fund direct research, the Next Generation Fund is designed for concepts with broader scope: the infrastructure improvements, workforce initiatives, education programs, and network-wide efforts that make better cancer research possible.

This is also the application to request renewal of funding previously granted through this mechanism.

What kinds of ideas are we looking for?

Strong proposals typically address a gap or opportunity that affects SWOG broadly — not just a single trial or disease committee. Past funded projects have supported workforce development, clinical research education, veteran access to trials, and network leadership. If your idea would strengthen how SWOG operates, trains its members, or reaches patients, we want to hear it. SWOG and Hope Foundation staff are welcome to apply.

These SWOG efforts began as Next Generation Fund proposals:

  • Advanced Practice Providers Initiative (now a full committee)
  • VA Storefront Support Program
  • SWOG/NCTN Virtual Grant Writing Workshop
  • Trial-Specific Education Funds

How to apply

Complete the form below by 5:00 pm ET on Tuesday, September 1. Submissions will be reviewed and considered for 2027 funding as part of The Hope Foundation’s annual budgeting process.

Applicants will be notified of funding status by or before December 31.
