Oncology Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), including Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Pharmacists are integral in providing quality cancer care. They are deeply involved in the treatment of cancer patients as well as symptom management and care coordination.

Recent changes in NCI guidelines and policies have formalized roles that are more pertinent for APPs to participate in NCI-sponsored trials.  SWOG has recognized APPs as being key stakeholders in the development and execution of clinical trials; however, APPs are not optimally represented in the research base at this time.

The SWOG Oncology APP Task Force will work to define goals and objectives for APPs in SWOG and to outline barriers and propose solutions to leverage and enhance APPs’ contributions to SWOG research.

The Hope Foundation provides travel support for each task force member to attend SWOG group meetings for up to three (3) years (re-evaluated on an annual basis).
