Established in honor of the late SWOG leader, mentor, and friend Dr. Nicholas J. Vogelzang, the Nicholas Vogelzang SWOG GU Scholarship supports early stage investigators to travel to 2 SWOG group meetings (spring and fall). Each Vogelzang Scholar will be paired with a senior mentor to help them not only at the meeting but throughout their early career years. 

Eligibility: M.D. or equivalent within 7 years of completion of final training.  (e.g., Hematology/Oncology, Urology, Radiation Oncology, etc).  A resident or fellow in their final year of training may apply.  Must be a member (or concurrently apply for membership) of SWOG.

Evaluation: Applications will be evaluated in 4 areas; please be sure to address each in the materials submitted:

  • Candidate background (training, publications, study development experience, engagement with SWOG trials)
  • Research plans
  • Mentorship plan
  • GU oncology-specific career potential

This letter should describe your aspirations for a career in oncology. It should describe your background leading to this interest as well as career plans. Please address your interest in GU cancer clinical trials or translational research and how increased participation in the GU Committee of SWOG will further your career. If you have a specific area of interest or plans for specific areas of study or trials, please describe in detail. Describe any prior experience in clinical trials design, accrual, or reporting. Describe any scientific areas where you feel that SWOG could help you improve your knowledge or experience in clinical trials or translational research. Describe the characteristics you feel would be helpful in a SWOG mentor (or mentors) that will be assigned.
