Virtual spring SWOG meeting sees numerous successes

Last week’s first-ever virtual SWOG group meeting featured 23 sessions across three days. Committees that were able to hold full and regular sessions received praise from members. Highlights included events led by the oncology research professionals (ORP) and cancer care delivery (CCD) committees, each of which welcomed more than two hundred attendees! Great job, everyone.

#SWOGonc continues to be Powered by Hope

Many of the individual gifts we receive from SWOG members are given at group meetings. While we were so glad to help SWOG transform its spring event during this challenging time, our need for charitable support remains unchanged, because patients still need exceptional cancer care.

Without donors like you, we couldn’t help researchers like Dr. Virginia Sun train with SWOG leaders, develop her career path, and launch network-wide clinical trials that improve cancer care for all. Please give today.

Henry to Receive 2020 Career Engagement Award

Dr. N. Lynn Henry

N. Lynn Henry, MD, PhD, of the University of Michigan was selected to receive our mid-career award during the recent spring group meeting Career Engagement Award review.

Henry will utilize the CEA to further her research goals of optimizing the patient experience for women with breast cancer, specifically focused on minimizing the negative impacts of life-prolonging endocrine therapies on their quality of life.

Programs which provide funding for protected research time are critical to the ongoing career development of clinician-researchers like Henry.

Support future leaders in cancer discovery through a gift directed to the Career Engagement Award program. Give today. And thank you.

SWOG Results Presented at AACR Annual Meeting

Dr. Alain Algazi

A first-of-its-kind randomized clinical trial offers strong and perhaps surprising evidence that a combination of two targeted melanoma drugs when given continuously keeps patients’ cancer from growing or spreading longer when compared with intermittent treatment, according to study results presented at the 2020 virtual annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.
